THE ROLE AND CHARACTER OF BELIEVERS 2

Welcome Back, Sisters in Christ

It is a joy to meet with you again as we continue our conversation about strengthening the dwelling place of Almighty God-the Church.

Last week, we established that the Church is God's Mighty House, not sustained by human effort alone, but built up through the active engagement of every believer. We focused specifically on our call to be builders, not spectators (Point 1), and committed to selfless service in our various ministries (Point 2).

If you missed Part 1, I encourage you to read it [https://intercessorywomenministry.blogspot.com/2025/11/role-and-character-of-believers.html] to catch up on our foundational truths.

Today, we go into the heart of the matter. As we continue building and serving, the Holy Spirit calls us deeper into two more essential truths that determine the overall strength and health of our community, and that is: Believers Must Reflect Christ's Character and Believers Must Pray for the Church and Its Ministers.

Let's pick up right where we left off.

Point 3: Believers Must Reflect Christ’s Character

While we serve, work, and embrace our role as builders, it is equally, if not more, important to examine and cultivate our character.

Read with me Ephesians 4:1-3

Before we go further, let’s connect this to a previous prayer point. On Monday, during our prayers at IWM, when we prayed that love would dwell richly in the body of Christ, we weren’t just praying for a fleeting feeling or a warm emotion. We were praying for a foundational character transformation. And now, in today’s study, we see clearly from scripture that love, along with humility, gentleness, and patience, is not optional...it is a fundamental part of what our God expects from every believer. It is the undeniable evidence that the life of Christ is genuinely at work within us.

Character, my dear sisters, matters deeply.

Humility, gentleness, patience, compassion, and boundless love are the non-negotiable key traits for every member of this household of faith. These are not "extras" or optional accessories in the Christian life; they are absolutely central to our structural integrity. You may possess incredible gifts, striking talents, a powerful anointing, and vibrant zeal, but without Christlike character, the church cannot stand strong.

Character is the spiritual glue that holds the house together. The church grows stronger, taller, and mightier when believers treat each other with profound kindness, forgive quickly, speak gently even when provoked, and exercise patience when it is most difficult.

Unity in the Body of Christ doesn’t happen by accident. True strength doesn't emerge from talent alone. The church becomes an unstoppable mighty house when its members interact with grace, reflecting their Savior in their daily lives.

The way we live, how we speak to one another, how we behave in private and public, how we treat the least of these, either strengthens the church or weakens its foundation. Your lifestyle is part of the construction project. Your words are valuable bricks. This is precisely why the Apostle Paul, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, urged us in his letter to the Colossians.

Colossians 3:12–14: "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another… And above all these things, put on LOVE, which binds everything together in perfect harmony."

Love is the divine mortar. Without love, the building inevitably falls apart into separate, scattered pieces. With love, the house becomes unshakable.

A church’s leadership cannot function effectively without a congregation of believers who wholeheartedly walk in the character of Christ. When members are loving, humble, patient, and forgiving, your leaders can lead with joy and excitement, instead of grief and exhaustion. When the congregation reflects God’s heart in their interactions, the entire ministry becomes healthy, fruitful, and peaceful. A Christlike church becomes a safe place, a strong place, and a growing place.

I’d like us to take a quiet moment right now to examine our personal attitudes and relationships within the church body:

  • Am I truly walking in love toward my sisters in Christ?
  • Am I patient with the weaknesses and imperfections of my brothers and sisters, just as Christ is patient with me?
  •  Do I forgive quickly, or am I holding grudges that crack the foundation?
  •  Am I gentle in how I speak, or do my words tear down?
  •  Is my character, my daily life, helping to build the church or weakening it by my actions?

Remember, sisters, the miracle of love we prayed for so fervently on Monday evening begins with the choices we make today, this morning, tomorrow morning, and always. If we want a church overflowing with love, it starts with each of us individually choosing to be that love to one another.

Point 4: Believers Must Pray for the Church and Its Ministers

Lastly, we turn to the power source. We are called to be prayer warriors.

1 Thessalonians 5:25: "Brothers, pray for us."

Prayer strengthens the church spiritually from its deepest roots and directly supports its ministers in carrying out their God-given, weighty roles. Believers are not sidelined observers; we are active participants in God’s work through our vital intercession.

Ephesians 6:18-20 reminds us that we are called to pray in the Spirit at all times, with all kinds of prayers and requests, for all the saints, and specifically for those who stand in the gap.

So let us remember, sisters, to lift up in earnest prayer our beloved pastor, our leaders, our ministry heads, and every single member of the house.

In Conclusion,  let us recap our four essential points for today.

1. Believers are Builders of God’s house.

2. Believers are Servants not Spectator.

3. Believers must Reflect Christ’s Character in all interactions.

4. Believers must Pray for the church and its ministers consistently.

So, dear sisters. As we close our time together for today and for this series. I want every one of us to take this word deeply to heart: Each member is a vital, non-transferable part of God’s mighty house.

You are not insignificant. You are not just a name on a register or someone simply attending church, you are a living, breathing stone in God’s eternal building. Without you, something is missing from the structure. When you step fully into your God-assigned role, the entire house becomes exponentially stronger.

Examine your role, ask yourself with an honest heart:

  • Am I building up the Body, or am I just watching others work?
  • Am I reflecting Christ in my character, or reflecting the world?
  • Am I serving willingly in God’s house, or waiting to be asked?
  •  Am I consistently praying for the church and its ministers, or am I silent?

These questions are not meant to condemn, but to help us measure whether we are contributing to the strength of God’s house or weakening it through our neglect and passivity.

Commit today to living out these principles daily. Let this not be just another post we read and quickly forget. Let it be a powerful call to action. A call to spiritual growth, a call to serve with excellence, a call to love unconditionally, and a call to strengthen God’s house by the way we live, the way we speak, and the way we support His work.

When each believer walks in Christlike character, takes their role seriously, serves faithfully with their gifts, and prays consistently, the church becomes unstoppable. God’s mighty house becomes a beacon of power, unity, and dynamic spiritual growth in a dark world.

let’s commit in our hearts this personal vow:

“Lord, I will be a committed builder in Your house.”

“I will walk in Your character.”

“I will serve You with joy and excellence.”

“I will pray for Your church faithfully.”

And as we do, our faithful God will strengthen us, He will use us mightily, and He will bless His house abundantly through every single one of us. Amen.

Blessings in Christ
