Speaking God’s Promises Over the New Year
IWM Devotional: Speaking God’s Promises Over the New Year
Scripture: “So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24).
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit”* (Proverbs 18:21).
Word for Today
I can’t help but think about the power of a praying woman, someone who speaks life over her circumstances, with the confidence that her Father hears her and responds. As we enter this new year, I want to invite you to take a moment and speak God’s promises over your life. There is power in our words, and especially when we declare His truth.
I know many of us have plans for the year ahead, and some have been praying for clarity or direction, while others may still be waiting for answers. But I believe in the same God who carried us through the challenges of this past year. He is with us, ready to walk beside us into a new season of growth and transformation.
So, right now, I encourage you to pause and take time to speak your hopes, your prayers, and your desires to your Father. Jesus taught us to begin our prayers with "Our Father," showing us that we have a personal, intimate relationship with the Creator of the universe. He is listening, and He is faithful to answer.
The new year is like a blank canvas, full of possibilities and opportunities to step into the life God has prepared for us. It’s not just about making plans, but about inviting God into those plans, allowing Him to direct our steps. This year, we have the privilege of not only trusting Him, but also speaking and praying over every area of our lives.
When we declare God’s promises over our lives, we aren’t demanding from God. Instead, we’re partnering with Him, aligning our hearts with His will, and asking Him to lead us forward. We’re stepping into agreement with His Word, believing that His perfect plans will unfold before us.
The Power of Declaration
Speaking and praying over the year ahead is not a passive act, it’s an act of faith. When we declare God’s promises, we’re activating the power of our words. As Proverbs 18:21 reminds us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” What we speak can set the course of our lives. If we speak life, hope, and faith, we align ourselves with the abundant life God desires for us.
In Job 22:28, it says, “What you declare in faith can be established.” That’s a powerful truth. Your words have the ability to shape your year. So, what do you want to see God do in your life this year? What are you believing Him for? Take time to declare those things, trusting that He hears you and will move in His perfect timing.
God loves it when we ask Him for what we need, desire, and hope for. Matthew 7:7 tells us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” This promise isn’t just for the things we might need in the physical realm—it’s also for our spiritual growth, our peace of mind, and our relationships.
When we ask according to God’s will, we can have confidence that He hears us and will answer. 1 John 5:14-15 reassures us, “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” What is on your heart today? Are you ready to ask boldly and trust God to answer according to His will?
Take a moment now to speak God’s promises over your life and your new year. Declare His truth over your health, your finances, your relationships, your work, and every area where you need His intervention. Speak life into every situation, even the ones that feel uncertain or challenging.
I encourage you to personalize this declaration
Declaration
This year, I will walk in God’s favor and grace.
I declare wisdom, peace, and joy in every area of my life.
Every plan of the enemy will be thwarted, and God’s purposes will prosper in me.
I will not be anxious, for the Lord orders my steps and goes before me.
I choose to speak life, faith, and hope into every circumstance this year.
I trust God’s promises, and I declare His faithfulness over my life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness this past year. I come before You now, surrendering the year ahead into Your hands. Lord, hear my heart, see my desires, and align my steps with Your will. Grant me wisdom, courage, and favor in every area of my life. Let every plan of mine that is in alignment with You prosper, and let Your peace reign over every challenge. Help me to walk in Your presence daily, declaring Your goodness and trusting Your promises. Amen.
As we step into this new year, remember, God is faithful. He hears our prayers, answers according to His perfect will, and delights when we speak life over our lives. Take this moment to declare, pray, and believe, and watch as He establishes His purposes and brings His promises to pass
