Bloom Where God Has Planted You – Part 3

IWM Devotional: Bloom Where God Has Planted You – Part 3 Ruth — Faithful in Dependence

Scripture: “So she went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers.”— Ruth 2:3

Word for Today

Ruth’s story is quiet, tender, and deeply human.
She had lost her husband, her security, and the life she once knew. The future was unclear, and nothing was promised. Yet in the middle of her grief and uncertainty, Ruth made a choice, and that's to remain faithful and to trust God, even without knowing how things would turn out. We all know how hard this can be.

Ruth didn’t have a plan laid out before her. She didn’t know who would notice her, provide for her, or protect her. She simply got up and went to work. One step at a time, one ordinary act of obedience at a time.

Ruth teaches us something powerful, that faithfulness doesn’t always look brave or bold. Sometimes it looks like showing up when you’re tired. Doing what you can with what you have. Trusting God in the middle of unanswered questions.

Gleaning was humble work, it was survival work. But God saw it as precious. Every step She took in obedience placed her exactly where she needed to be. What felt like dependence was actually divine positioning. (Ruth 2)

There are seasons when God doesn’t give us clarity, only trust. When He doesn’t explain the outcome, only asks for obedience. And in those moments, we learn that dependence is not weakness, it is faith in action. Even when you don’t know what’s next, God is arranging the details. Your quiet obedience, your steady faithfulness, your willingness to trust Him in uncertainty—none of it is wasted. God meets us in the fields we faithfully walk into, and He does more than we could imagine.

Reflection Question

Where is God asking you to trust Him, even without knowing the outcome?

Prayer

Father, Teach me to trust You when I cannot see the full picture. Help me to remain faithful in the ordinary moments.
When I feel unsure or dependent, remind me that You are guiding my steps. I place my trust in You, knowing You are working for my good.
Amen.
