God is Spirit
IWM Devotional – GOD IS SPIRIT
Scripture: John 4:24 (KJV) — “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Word for Today
Before I begin today’s write-up, I want to share something personal. As I was studying my Bible, I realized that this is a passage I have read and studied over and over again. I thought I already understood it. But when I got to the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman, something happened, I had to pause. I couldn’t rush past it.
There was something in that conversation that made me slow down and look again. And as I sat with it, I felt led not to move ahead alone. So today, I want to invite you, my sisters—to move with me in this devotional. Let’s journey through this together, with open hearts.
Jesus said plainly, “God is Spirit.”
This truth alone reshapes everything we think we know about worship.
God is not limited to a place, form, or physical structure. He is invisible, eternal, and present everywhere. When Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman, she was concerned about location—whether worship should happen on a mountain or in Jerusalem. But Jesus lifted her understanding. He showed her that God cannot be boxed into a space.
Just as Solomon prayed in 1 Kings 8:27,“Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You.”
God is not confined to a temple, a mountain, a church building, or a location. He dwells everywhere, and He desires to dwell especially within the hearts of His people.
Today, let this settle in your spirit. You do not need to “arrive” somewhere before you can worship God.
He is near, He is present, and He is Spirit.
Prayer
Father, thank You for who You are—Spirit, ever present and near. Remove every limitation I have placed on You, and help me to recognize Your presence in every moment. Make my heart a dwelling place where You are honoured and welcomed.
