Salvation 2: Loved Before You Perform
IWM Devotional: Salvation: Loved Before You Perform
Scripture: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
Word for Today
Yesterday, we spoke about salvation beginning with receiving Christ. That moment when you said yes to Jesus and stepped into new life. Today, we are focusing on another area, one that many saved women quietly struggle with. Grace.
This day is for the woman who has accepted Jesus but is still trying to be perfect. The woman who loves God deeply but feels constant pressure to get everything right. The one who believes in salvation but still lives as though God’s love must be maintained by effort.
Grace changes everything.
Many women live under pressure, even in their faith. Pray more. Do more. Be better. Try harder. Without realizing it, salvation slowly turns into performance. But that is not how the gospel works. Christ did not die for you after you improved. He died for you while you were still a mess.
Now, this is the heart of the gospel. You are loved before you perform, accepted before you achieve, and chosen before you change.
God never saved you so you could spend your life trying to earn what He already gave you. His grace was not meant to start your journey and then disappear. Grace is what carries you every single day. So embracing salvation means learning to rest. Rest from striving to earn God’s approval, rest from measuring your worth by how well you are doing spiritually. Grace says, “It is finished.” Grace teaches us to receive love instead of trying to qualify for it.
Beloved, when you truly understand salvation, your relationship with God changes. You stop serving Him from fear and start walking with Him from love. Obedience flows naturally, not because you are trying to be accepted, but because you already are.
So let grace heal the parts of you that still feel like you must prove yourself. Let mercy meet you in your weaknesses. Jesus already did the work. Your role is not to be perfect. Your role is to believe, rest, and receive.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me before I ever had it all together. I confess that I have tried to earn what You freely gave me. I release the pressure to be perfect and the fear of not measuring up. Teach me to rest in Your grace and trust in Your finished work. Heal the places in my heart that feel like they must prove something to be loved. Help me to walk with You from a place of gratitude, not performance. Today, I choose to receive Your mercy again. In Jesus’ name, amen.
