The Value of Teachability
IWM Devotional: The Value of Teachability
The Posture of Growth is a two-day devotional series reminding us that learning does not end with maturity, it begins there. When humility leads, growth follows.
Scripture: “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” — Proverbs 9:9
Word for Today
There is a quiet danger that sneaks into our lives as we grow—not sin, not rebellion, but pride disguised as “I already know.”
It whispers, “You’re past this level. You shouldn’t still be learning. People might think you’re not competent. Before we realize it, growth stops. And one of the marks of true maturity is not how much you know, but how teachable you remain. Learning is not a sign of weakness, it is evidence of wisdom in motion.
No matter your field—writing, ministry, business, don’t let Fear or pride stop you from growing. Study, refine, upgrade, and seek mentors. Growth honors God because it keeps our hearts humble and dependent on Him .
Even Jesus, in His humanity, modeled teachability. Luke 2: 52 says, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”
If the Son of God allowed growth to be part of His journey, who are we to think we are done learning?
Personal Reflection
Ask yourself today. Am I resisting learning? Or am I embracing growth as a mark of wisdom?
Prayer
