GOD IS SPIRIT 2: WORSHIPPING HIM IN SPIRIT

IWM Devotional – GOD IS SPIRIT 2: WORSHIPPING HIM IN SPIRIT

Scripture: John 4:24 (KJV)— “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Word for Today

Because God is Spirit, our worship must flow from the spirit as well.

This speaks of the inner man—the heart, the place no one else sees. Scripture tells us in Romans 8:16, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

True worship begins where the Spirit of God meets our spirit.

Worship is not just actions, songs, or rituals. It is not performance. It is not noise. True worship flows from a heart that is alive to God—sincere, yielded to the Holy Spirit, and responsive to His presence.

Consider David. Many times, David worshiped God alone—on the fields, in caves, in moments of brokenness and repentance. In Psalm 51:17 he said, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise.”

David understood something powerful, God values the heart more than the ritual.

His worship flowed from intimacy, repentance, and love for God—not perfection. This reminds us that worship is not about looking right; it is about being real before God. Worship that pleases Him comes from within.

Today, ask yourself gently, Is my worship flowing from my spirit, or only from habit?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, awaken my heart to worship You in sincerity and truth.
Remove empty rituals and draw me into intimate, heartfelt communion with You.
Let my worship flow from a yielded, humble, and responsive spirit.
