IWM Devotional: Followers of Christ
Scripture: “Even if you had countless guides in Christ, you wouldn’t have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. So I urge you to imitate me.” —1 Corinthians 4:15–16 (MSG)
Paul’s words gently, yet profoundly, challenge us “So I urge you to imitate me.” This isn’t about boasting in ourselves, it’s about pointing others to Christ through the way we live. Our lives become vessels through which the love, patience, and holiness of God are seen.
And here is where the heart of this devotional lies, Christ is the perfect example. When we consider imitation, Jesus is the ultimate model. He demonstrated humility in service, strength in obedience, mercy in judgment, and love without limits. Every action, word, and thought of His was aligned with the Father’s will. When Paul urges the Corinthians to imitate him, he is ultimately pointing them to the One he follows—Jesus Christ.
What does this mean for us today? It means our influence, whether as parents, leaders, friends, or coworkers, is most powerful when it reflects Christ. Our words, our patience, our integrity, our love, they all become testimonies that point others to Him. People may see our imperfections, but they will also see Christ working through us.
So I encourage you today, let your life reflect Jesus in every decision, every encounter, every moment of grace and challenge. Be the example that uplifts, encourages, and points to God’s glory. And just as Paul prayed for the Corinthians, I pray for us all, “May the Lord, continue to help us follow Christ’s perfect example. Let our lives mirror His love, humility, and faithfulness. May we be instruments through which others see Him clearly, and may our influence draw people closer to Christ. Amen.”
Remember, the call isn’t perfection, it’s faithfulness. Let others see Christ in you, and in that, you become a guide, a spiritual parent, and a living reflection of the One who gave Himself for us.
Personal Reflection
How should I live, knowing others may follow me?
