Hidden in His Covering

IWM Devotion: Hidden in His Covering

Scripture:
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.—Psalm 32:7

Word For Today

Let’s talk about something deeply comforting today, God’s covering. In Psalm 32:7a, David says, “You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble.” Pause there for a moment. “You are my hiding place.” Not just my helper. Not just my provider. Not just my defender. My hiding place.

That means there is a place in God where you are covered. Preserved. Surrounded. And I love that word, surrounded. It means His protection is not partial, it is not fragile, it is not occasional, it is constant and complete. There is a surrounding grace over your life that you do not even see.

Many believers do not fully understand what they are enjoying daily. We enjoy protection we never prayed about. Mercy we never asked for. Battles fought that we never saw. Dangers blocked that we never knew were near.

And as Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” Encamps. That is not a quick visit. That is a stationed guard. A surrounding. A covering. God does not casually watch over you. He surrounds you.

Here Is Something I Learned. There was a time I was sitting near a gate at night and casually hung my legs outside. Suddenly, a sense of fear came over me. It felt unsafe. I quickly pulled them back in and thought, “What if?” Now realistically, no one was there. The house was secure. The compound was protected. There was no visible danger. But in that moment, something dropped in my spirit. “That is what it is like when we step outside of God’s covering.”

Nothing may look wrong. Everything may appear fine. But spiritually, there is an exposure that was never meant for you. That moment with my legs outside the gate was a spiritual picture. Inside the gate was safety. Outside was exposure. No one forced me to move. I chose to extend myself outward, and I felt the vulnerability, the difference immediately. In the same way, we choose daily, Will I dwell? Or will I drift?

Daughters of the king, please let me say this clearly, God does not abandon. He does not withdraw His love. He does not shift His position. But we can step out of alignment. We can ignore conviction. We can entertain what weakens us spiritually.

And when we do, confusion grows louder. Fear increases. Temptation feels stronger. Not because God left, but because we stepped out of alignment with the safety of His ways. Scripture warns us in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Notice, seeking.

There is an enemy that looks for vulnerability. But there is also a God who offers covering.

In Psalm 91:1, we are told, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” There is safety in the shadow. There is rest in the secret place. And There is preservation under His covering. And here is the beautiful part, hiding in God is not weakness. It is wisdom. It is not fear, it is security. It is not restriction, it is protection. When David said, “You are my hiding place,” he was not speaking from panic. He was speaking from experience. He knew what it meant to be preserved.

Are you living aware of His covering? Or have you stretched yourself into spaces that leave you spiritually exposed? This is not condemnation, but an invitation. Because the same God who covers is the same God who welcomes. As James 4:8 reminds us, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” The hiding place is still open. The covering is still available. The surrounding grace is still very active.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being our hiding place. Thank You for the unseen protection, the surrounding grace, the preservation we often take for granted. Teach us to value Your covering. Keep us sensitive. Keep us near. Help us remain hidden in You daily, not casually, not occasionally, but intentionally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Personal Reflection

Have you stepped outside the gate in any area of your life?

Come back to your hiding place. He is still covering. He is still preserving. He is still surrounding you.
