IWM Devotion: Strength Perfected in Weakness
Scripture: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”-2 Corinthians 12:9
Word for today
There is something divine about the places we try so hard to hide. As women, we are often taught, implicitly and explicitly that strength means holding everything together. We show up polished. We carry the weight quietly. We pray fiercely, serve faithfully, love endlessly… and still hesitate to admit when we feel tired, inadequate, or overwhelmed.
But the Word of God gently interrupts our performance. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Lord speaks these life-giving words, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” What a holy reversal. What a tender truth. Now, notice He does not say His strength is made perfect in our competence. Not in our planning. Not in our flawless execution. But in our weakness.
Weakness is not a disqualification, it’s a call. The Apostle Paul had pleaded with God to remove what he called a “thorn.” We don’t know exactly what it was, but we know it made him feel limited. Human. Dependent. And instead of removing it, God revealed something deeper, and that grace would be enough, power would rest there.
Rest. That word settles my spirit. Because so many of us are striving. Striving to be the perfect mother. The supportive wife. The dependable friend. The prayer warrior who never doubts. We exhaust ourselves trying to appear strong enough to handle what life has placed in our hands.
But what if the very place you feel weakest is the place God wants to display Himself most clearly? When we stop striving to appear strong, we make room for divine strength. When we admit, “Lord, I cannot do this without You,” heaven does not recoil, it responds.
There is a difference between weakness that draws us away from God and weakness that drives us into His arms. The latter becomes holy ground. It humbles us, softens us, teaches us dependence. And in that dependence, something beautiful happens, His power rests on us. Not visits, rests. Like glory settling in the temple. Like peace settling in a storm. Like a gentle but undeniable assurance that you are carried.
Sister, your tears are not proof of failure. Your limitations are not signs that you were overlooked by heaven. Your struggle does not cancel your calling. In fact, it may be confirming it. Because when God chooses to work through a woman who knows she cannot do it on her own, the testimony is unmistakable. The strength is clearly His. The endurance is clearly grace. The victory is clearly divine.
So today, lay down the exhausting armor of self-sufficiency. Bring Him your tired places. Your unsure places. Your “I don’t know how” places. And hear Him whisper again, My grace is sufficient for you. My strength is made perfect in weakness.
What if the very thing you have been asking God to remove is the very place He wants to reveal Himself?
Let His strength rest on you, you do not have to be strong for God to use you. You only have to be willing.
Prayer
Lord, help me embrace my weakness as a place where Your power can shine. Teach me to depend on Your grace daily. Amen.
