Word for Today

Welcome to IWM Devotion. Now yesterday we talked about not despising small beginnings. We talked about honoring your seed. Nurturing your process. Trusting what looks small is. But do you know what I’ve come to learn that can drag any woman down? Comparison.

It doesn’t knock loudly. It scrolls quietly. You’re doing fine, until you see what she’s doing. You were content, until you notice where she is. You were grateful, until you start measuring. And suddenly your small beginning feels smaller. Your progress feels slower. And your blessings feel delayed.

You see, comparison has a way of shrinking what God has given you by magnifying what He’s given someone else. And if we’re honest, it happens in subtle places. Comparing marriages. Comparing careers.
Comparing callings. Comparing timelines. Comparing bodies. Comparing platforms. Even comparing spiritual growth.

You start questioning yourself, “Should I be further by now? Why hasn’t it happened for me yet? What am I doing wrong?” But here’s the truth, beloved, comparison is dangerous because it distorts perspective. In Galatians 6:4, we are reminded to examine our own work, not someone else’s. Know this, your assignment was never meant to be graded against hers.

I will tell you what comparison does to you, it makes you rush seasons that require patience. It will tempt you to imitate graces that were never assigned to you. It will have you chasing outcomes instead of stewarding obedience. And the most dangerous part? It makes you forget what God has already done for you. You stop celebrating your growth because it doesn’t look like hers. You stop honoring your progress because hers looks more visible. You stop trusting your pace because hers seems faster. But do you know that faster does not always mean favored. Visible does not always mean fulfilled.

God is intentional. He writes stories differently. One woman blooms early. Another blooms deeply. One builds publicly. Another builds privately. Both are seen. When you compare, you subtly accuse God of mishandling your life. That’s strong, but it’s true.

Comparison whispers, “He’s doing better for her than He’s doing for me.” And that thought right there,  if left unchecked, can plant seeds of insecurity, resentment, and quiet bitterness. God does not copy and paste destinies. The danger of comparison is that it makes you abandon your lane to compete in someone else’s. And when you leave your lane, you lose clarity, you lose peace, you lose focus. And you cannot flourish while distracted.

When you compare yourself to others, you end up striving instead of surrendering, performing instead of trusting. Posting instead of praying. But peace returns when you remember this, what is meant for you cannot be taken by her. Your timeline is not late. Your pace is not wrong. Your journey is not inferior. It is intentional.

And here’s something freeing, you can celebrate her without questioning yourself. Her blessing does not cancel yours. Her progress does not erase yours. Her moment does not delay yours. When you root yourself in gratitude, comparison loses its grip. So instead of looking sideways, look upward.

Sisters, instead of measuring, start stewarding. Instead of asking, “Why not me?” ask, “Lord, what are You building in me right now?” Because the same God who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it, in His way, in His timing, and with your name on it.

Stay in your lane. Honor your season. Trust your Author.

Comparison may try to pull you down. But confidence in God will keep you steady.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, free my heart from comparison. Teach me to celebrate others without diminishing myself. Help me trust the story You are writing for me. Anchor me in gratitude and secure me in my identity Lord. Amen.
