Jehovah Jireh
IWM Devotion: Jehovah Jireh
Scripture: Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”—Genesis 22:14 (NLT).

Word for Today
When we speak of Jehovah Jireh, we are speaking of the God who provides. Who provides faithfully, abundantly, and often in ways we could never anticipate. The name itself, given in Genesis 22:14, like we saw in our key scripture, it carries a profound truth.
In the story of Abraham on Mount Moriah. Where he was faced with an impossible situation, the command to offer his son Isaac. Every natural instinct screamed “stop,” yet his faith trusted a God who provides. And God did not disappoint.
And that’s one powerful habit, every child of God should possess. Imagine if God had given you that instruction, how would you have reacted? Most of us would probably doubt it, wondering, ‘Is this really God speaking?’, and maybe even laugh a little at the thought. But Abraham showed us what real faith is. And I believe if we truly have faith in God, then we should trust Him even when it’s very difficult.
At the very moment of seeming loss, provision appeared, a ram caught in the thicket, a tangible reminder that God sees, God knows, and God provides exactly what is needed, right when it is needed.
This story isn’t just ancient history; it’s deeply personal and timeless. Life often places us on our own “mountains of Moriah”, moments when we are stretched, uncertain, and tempted to rely on our own understanding. And yet, Jehovah Jireh is there. And I want us to know that, not only does He provide materially, but He provides wisdom when we feel lost, peace when our hearts are heavy, and opportunities when doors seem closed. His provision is holistic, touching every corner of our lives.
I'm reminded of a song I've loved for years. Its words capture the heart of this truth, it goes like this:“Jehovah Jireh, My Provider, His grace is sufficient for me (x2). My God shall supply all my needs, according to His riches in glory, He will give His angels charge over me, Jehovah Jireh cares for me.”
Very powerful, powerful song.
My sisters, to embrace Jehovah Jireh is to live in a posture of trust. It’s a daily surrender that says, “Lord, I may not see the way forward, but I know You will provide.” It’s a recognition that provision doesn’t always look like what we expect; sometimes it comes as guidance, sometimes as patience, sometimes as the courage to endure. But it always comes, and it always satisfies.
So today, in whatever season you find yourself, remember this, Jehovah Jireh is not only a name but a promise. The God who provided for Abraham provides for you. He sees your needs, He knows your worries, and His timing is perfect. Rest in Him, trust Him, and watch how His provision unfolds in ways beyond your imagination.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for always providing for me and my family. Help me to trust You completely and never doubt Your plans. Please keep my faith strong, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
