Word for Today

Yesterday we talked about walking in love, and honestly, I couldn’t take it off my heart even after the conversation ended. It stayed with me. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that love is such a wide and deep thing that you can’t finish talking about it in just one moment. So today, I want us to look at another beautiful aspect of love, patience.

The scripture that keeps coming to mind is from 1 Corinthians 13:4, which we read this morning, that “Love is patient, love is kind.” Now, this verse is simple right?, but i want you to know, that it carries so much meaning when you begin to apply it to real life.

Patience in love shows up in the everyday moments of our relationships, family, friendships, especially in marriage, and even new relationships that are still finding their rhythm.

In marriage, patience is one of the quiet strengths that holds two people together. Two individuals, not just individuals but adult individuals with different backgrounds, habits, and personalities are learning how to build one life together. That process requires patience, patience when communication isn’t perfect, patience when growth takes time, and patience when life brings seasons that stretch both partners. Love that is patient understands that a marriage is not built overnight; it is built day by day.

Within family relationships, patience is just as important. Families are close, and because they are close, emotions can run deep. But love reminds us to slow down before reacting, to listen before judging, and to extend grace even when someone disappoints us. Patience in a family says, “You matter more to me than this moment of frustration.”

Even in friendships, patience protects the relationship. Friends will misunderstand each other at times, and life can sometimes pull people in different directions. Patient love gives space for growth and change without quickly giving up on the bond.

And when it comes to new relationships, patience becomes even more important. In a time where people often rush into feelings and expectations, patient love chooses to take time. It allows two people to truly learn each other, values, character, dreams, and intentions, without pressure or pretense. Patience in a new relationship builds a stronger foundation because it values understanding more than speed.

The truth is, patience in love is not always easy. It requires humility, self-control, and a willingness to see the bigger picture. But i can tell you, that it is one of the most powerful ways we demonstrate genuine care for the people in our lives.

When we choose patience, we are saying, “This relationship is worth the time, the grace, and the effort.”

And maybe that is why the scripture begins with patience when describing love. Because without patience, love struggles to survive the reality of human imperfections. But with patience, love grows deeper, stronger, and more enduring. And it really really pays at the end.

So today, as we continue walking in love, let’s remember this simple but powerful truth, love that lasts is love that is patient.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for today. I pray that You strengthen me, fill my heart with Your peace, and help me grow in the patience that allows love to mature, deepen, and flourish. Amen.
