  Word for Today

These days, something is changing, and not in a good way. People now joke about everything. Nothing seems serious anymore. From social media skits to everyday conversations, even the things of God have become material for jokes. You will hear people use God’s name carelessly, mimic spiritual things for laughs, or turn deep matters into entertainment.

At first, it may look harmless. It may even feel normal because “everyone is doing it.” But the truth is, that right there, that is not normal. And it is not safe.

There was a time when people feared God, not fear like being scared, but fear with respect. With deep respect. People were careful with how they spoke about Him, how they used His name, and how they handled anything connected to Him. But now? People talk about God like He is their mate. They joke about serious spiritual things. They laugh about what should actually make them pause and think.

And slowly, without noticing, the heart begins to lose respect. Because once something becomes a joke to you, it can no longer guide you, correct you, or change you. You’re now too familiar. And it’s very bad. It Starts Small, But It Goes Deep. Nobody wakes up one day and decides to disrespect God. It starts small.

A joke here, careless word there, a video you laugh at without thinking twice. Then it becomes a habit. Before long, your heart no longer feels anything when God is mentioned. No respect. No attention. No sensitivity. That is how spiritual dryness begins, not because God left, no. But because we stopped taking Him seriously.

God Is Not Your Playmate. Let’s not forget this. Yes, Our Father is loving. God is kind, yes. But God is also Holy. And holiness is not something you joke with.

You can be close to God and still respect Him. You can feel His love and still honor His presence. But when you remove respect completely, what you have left is not relationship, it is carelessness. And carelessness in spiritual things is dangerous. Trust me.

And the major problem now, is Social Media. It’s not helping matters. Today, many people are chasing attention. They just want views, they want followers, and they want people to laugh and share their content. So they cross lines. They turn preaching into comedy. They imitate spiritual leaders for jokes. They use God’s name in ways that carry no honor.

And because people are entertained, nobody stops to ask, “Is this right?”. Let me tell us something, just because something is funny does not mean it is harmless. Some jokes are not just jokes, they are signs of lost values. And we should be careful. The way you treat spiritual things, the things of God affects your life more than you realize. When you begin to joke about spiritual things, do you want to know what happens?

You lose sensitivity, you lose depth, and you stop growing spiritually. Because the same heart that laughs carelessly will struggle to pray seriously. The same mouth that jokes about God will find it hard to speak to Him with honor. And before you know it, the connection becomes weak.

So today, we need to do something quick. This is not about judging others, it is about checking ourselves.  Ask yourself honestly now, “do I laugh at things that shouldn’t be laughed at, do I use God’s name carelessly, have I become too used to sacred things that I no longer respect them?"

But be sincere with yourself. Because I believe change starts with awareness. Let us as believers bring back respect, let’s not join the world.  It is not too late to correct it. Let’s start by minding our words, let’s be careful what we laugh at, and let’s pause before speaking about spiritual things. You don’t have to be perfect, but you must be intentional. Respect is not old-fashioned, it’s very very necessary.

The things of God are not ordinary, and they should never become ordinary to you. In a time where everything is turned into content, choose to be different. Choose respect over jokes, choose understanding over carelessness, and choose depth over noise. Because at the end of the day, this is not about trends or entertainment. It is about your heart, and also how you relate with God.

Please don’t joke with the things of God. It may look small, but it carries weight. The world is doing it doesn’t mean we join them. As women who walk with God, we must be different. There are things you don’t laugh at, there are things you don’t repost, there are things you don’t engage with casually. Because where others see content, you must learn to see what is divine.

And i think you might want to share this.

Prayer

Lord, let Your mercy prevail in my life. Guard my heart and help me not to take spiritual matters lightly. Grant me wisdom to walk in Your ways. Amen.

Blessings.
