Word for Today

When I first read the story of Saul, I noticed that God gave him a very simple instruction, but he chose to only do part of it. That meant he ended up disobeying God, and I remember thinking, “Wow.”

After that, I became curious about how his story continued and how everything eventually turned out for him. So I kept reading. As I went further, I started to realize that sometimes people don’t really want to change, even when they’re given the chance. Saul was a king chosen and anointed by God, and the prophet Samuel was sent to guide him. But eventually, God decided to find a better king for Israel, and that’s when David was anointed. David was very humble.

The more I read, the more surprised and concerned I felt, honestly. I kept thinking, “Why? Why is Saul acting like this?” Sorry, I feel like I’m typing too much now, lol. But if you’re interested, you can read more about it in 1 Samuel 15–22, or even continue through the rest of the book up to 1 Samuel 31.

You know, envy isn’t just a small moment of jealousy that comes and goes. It can actually become something deeper, a kind of poison in the heart. It slowly eats away at you, affects how you think, and can even open the door to things that bring harm into your life. The Bible already warns us about this, and we saw that in our key scripture.

The tricky part is that envy doesn’t always look obvious. Sometimes it shows up as “I’m just concerned,” or “I’m just trying to do better,” or even “I admire them.” But underneath it, something isn’t right. And if we’re honest, it can do more damage than we realize. It starts to push against what God is doing in someone else’s life and quietly wishes their blessings were taken away or reduced. Enviness I believe is witchcraft, because it attempt to manipulate destiny and disrupt divine order.

Let’s see David and Saul. A perfect example of Envy. We can see that in 1 Samuel 19. Saul had been anointed king, yet God had chosen David to succeed him. David had just defeated Goliath, gained the hearts of the people, and earned military victories. Saul became jealous. And the worst part is, his envy of David was not just personal jealousy, it became a spiritual attack, as he tried multiple times to kill David.

“Saul was very angry; this saying displeased him, and he said, ‘They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands; what more can he have but the kingdom?’”— 1 Samuel 18:8

By chapter 19, Saul’s envy turned him into a vessel of destruction. He attempted to use manipulation, lies, and even his own daughter to harm David. And that’s one one thing about people with envy, they can do anything just to get rid of whoever it’s. Saul’s envy blocked his spiritual discernment and corrupted his heart, ultimately separating him from God’s favor.

This is a vivid illustration of how envy is more than a human emotion, it is a spiritual attack. It twists perception, drives wicked decisions, and opens the door for curses, lies, or manipulations that can resemble witchcraft. I have seen people with enviness and it doesn’t look good. And I will tell us what envy can do. Envy works like a slow-acting poison. It corrupts the heart.

Like Saul, envy breeds bitterness, rage, and resentment toward others. It blinds judgment also. Because An envious person can no longer see rightly; logic is clouded by self-interest. It resists God’s will. Envy is often directed at someone God has chosen or blessed. Tell me what else could be the reason, envy always tries to interfere with destiny. It spreads harm. Just as Saul sought David’s life, envy can manifest in manipulation, gossip, or spiritual attacks.

It is a spiritual attempt to steal what God has already ordained.

And the good part is no matter what. envy can’t touch what God has ordained. “The Lord was with David, and he prospered wherever he went. Saul was afraid of David, but all Israel and Judah loved David.”— 1 Samuel 18:14-15. This shows an important spiritual truth. The protection of God surrounds the anointed, and His plan cannot be thwarted by human bitterness or manipulation.

I want us to plead with us Christians and women of God today. Guard Your Heart Against Envy. Envy may feel small or natural, but left unchecked, it can poison relationships and even manifest spiritually. Pray for contentment and celebrate the success of others as God’s favor, not your loss. Envy is not just a personal feeling, it can be an attack on destiny. Spiritual disciplines such as prayer, fasting, and Scripture meditation help counter the subtle schemes of envy.

Protect Your Destiny. Just like David, your purpose cannot be stolen by envy. Trust God’s timing and stay faithful in your calling. Seek God’s guidance when confronted with envious people. Pray for protection and for their hearts to be healed. Envy often provokes anger or revenge, but God calls us to bless those who envy or oppose us (Romans 12:14). Learn to respond  with humility and prayer, to disarms the spiritual poison and breaks the cycle of jealousy.

In conclusion, envy is far more dangerous than it appears. It is a spiritual poison, often disguised as human emotion, but capable of destroying hearts, relationships, and even destinies. Saul’s envy of David is a timeless warning, when jealousy turns to action, it seeks to destroy what God has blessed.

Today, let us examine our own hearts for envy, protect ourselves spiritually, and remember that true spiritual authority and blessing are never obtained through envy, they are given by God alone. Proverbs 3:31

Celebrate God’s favor in others, and trust Him to protect and guide your destiny.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart. Cleanse me from every trace of envy within me. Help me to rejoice with others and walk in love, contentment, and gratitude. Teach me to see myself the way You see me, and to trust fully in Your plan for my life.

Lord, I also ask for Your light to shine around me. Reveal anyone carrying envy or ill intentions toward me. Expose what is hidden, and protect me from every silent harm. Surround me with genuine, loving, and pure-hearted people.

Father, guard my heart from bitterness or fear. Let me walk in wisdom, discernment, and peace. Cover me with Your presence, and let no negativity take root in my life. In Jesus name. Amen.
