Word for Today
Yesterday we talked on being trustworthy. Do you know that humility is also something crucial that will make God say, “okay, I trust him.” If humility before God and others is difficult for you, it may limit how far you can grow and go. You know, humility is not something you just say you have. Life will test it, God will test it. And the way you respond will show it.
A lot of us say we are humble, but the moment you’re corrected, overlooked, or not celebrated, something else starts coming out. That thing you’re feeling there, check it well. The Bible already tells us in James 4:6 that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. And that means pride can actually stand in the way of what God wants to do in your life, while humility attracts His help.
Humility is not thinking you are nothing, it’s knowing who you are, but still choosing to stay low before God and before people. If we really want to learn humility, we have to look at Jesus. This is someone who had all power, all authority, yet He came down, lived simply, served people, washed feet, and still allowed Himself to be mocked and rejected.
That’s why Philippians 2:5–8 tells us to have the same mind, He humbled Himself, even to the point of death. Imagine, the One that created everything, still chose to be gentle. Humility I will say, is strength under control. It’s when you can speak, but you choose to be quiet. It’s when you can fight for yourself, but you allow God defend you. It’s when you’re doing well, but you’re not making noise about it.
The Bible even says in 1 Peter 5:6 that when you humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, He will exalt you in due time. Not your time, but His time. Some of us, the reason for delay is not the devil, it’s pride. Because the moment God lifts you small, your heart has already shifted. And God is not about to bless you in a way that will make you lose Him.
Humility will make you teachable. It will make you correctable. It will make you depend on God daily and not feel like you’ve arrived. And let’s be honest, yes it’s not always easy. Sometimes humility will look like you’re being taken for granted. Sometimes it will look like you’re being ignored. But God sees.
Proverbs 22:4, like we read in our key scripture, tells us that by humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honour, and life. So humility is not loss, it’s actually a pathway.
I pray God helps us truly learn this, not just by words, but in our daily living. Because the truth is, the higher God wants to take you, the deeper humility He will require from you.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach me to walk in humility like You. Help me lay down pride, choose lowliness, and serve with a sincere heart. Let me not seek recognition, but to reflect Your nature in all I do. Shape my heart to be gentle, obedient, and yielded to the Father. In Jesus name, Amen.
