Feeding Your Spirit with the Right Company

IWM Devotion: Feeding Your Spirit with the Right Company
Key Scripture:
Acts 2:42, “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.”

 Word For Today

Let me tell you the truth, you are becoming who you’re around. The question is, What’s on the table? Because some tables feed you, and some tables drain you. Some company waters your purpose, and some company poisons your well. That’s why scripture says, “Do not forsake the gathering of the brethren.” (Hebrews 10:25).

Your company is your diet. In Proverbs 13:20, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” You don’t fall in one day. You drift by who you sit with daily. If your circle only talks about men, money, and misery, your spirit will starve. If your circle talks about Word, worship, and wisdom, your spirit will feast.

1 Corinthians 15:33 warns us, “Bad company corrupts good character.” Please pay attention closely,  it doesn’t say “bad company influences you.” It says it corrupts you. Slowly and quietly. Until the things you used to cry about in prayer, you now laugh about at brunch.

Your spirit can’t stay on fire hanging around ashes. The enemy’s first strategy is never attack. It’s to isolate. If he can get you alone, he can get you to believe lies. That’s why Hebrews 10:25 says “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.”

We don’t go to church just for a sermon. We go for strength. Acts 2:42 shows the early church, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Teaching, plus Fellowship, plus Prayer. You need all three.

Some of you are trying to fight battles alone that were meant to be fought in community. Your mood is low, your faith is weak, your fire is out, and this is because you forsook the gathering. Zoom can’t hug you. Reels can’t pray over you when you’re breaking. You need people who can lay hands on you, not just like your post.

Right company is not just Christian, it’s alignment. It’s not enough to be around people who go to church. You need people who carry fire. People who remind you of who you are when you forget. People who pull you into the Word, not into gossip. People who ask, “How’s your prayer life?” not just “What’s the tea?”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. “Two are better than one, if either falls, one can help the other up.” So, Sister, as a believer, you cannot afford to do life with people who normalize compromise. You need midwives, not mockers. You need people who will pray with you not party with you while your purpose dies.

When you’re around fire, you catch fire. When you’re around hunger, you get hungry. When you’re around people who love Jesus out loud, shame has no place.Your flesh wants isolation so it can sin in secret. Your spirit wants fellowship so it can grow in light. 1 John 1:7, “If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.”  May God direct you to the right community. And please be involve also, it's one thing to be in that same community and still not growing. give yourself a space and chance to be touched. God bless you.

Prayer

Father, forgive me for every table I sat at that starved my spirit. Forgive me for forsaking the gathering because I was tired, offended, or busy. Today I acknowledge, I cannot grow alone. Holy Spirit, Please connect me to the right company. Give me discernment to walk away from relationships that corrupt my fire. Bring me people who love Your presence, who speak Your Word, who challenge me to grow spiritually. In Jesus name, Amen.

I want you to text one godly sister. Ask, “How can I pray for you?” Don’t just scroll. Fellowship.
